This 1977 television special was to be the pilot to a live-action Justice League tv series, sadly the series was never produced. In the first episode of Legends of the Superheroes "The Challenge" the Super Villians (The Riddler, The Weather Wizard, Sinestro, Mondru, Dr. Sivana, Giganta and Solomon Grundy) develop a bomb capable of blowing up the world, the Superheroes (Batman, Robin, Shazam, Hawkman, The Flash, Green Lantern, The Huntress, Black Canary and Retired Man) must scramble frantically to stop them. Superman was unable to appear on the show as the character rights were tied up by Superman The Movie. Wonder Woman already starred in her own show airing on CBS. In the second episode "The Roast" is about a comedic roast of the Super-Heroes hosted by Ed McMahon and featuring appearances by the Super Villains. The episode "The Challenge" was produced after "The Roast" to accommodate Frank Gorshin's schedule.
