The adventures of seaplane pilot and soldier of fortune Jake Cutter in the South Pacific of 1938. Jake, a former Flying Tigers pilot, made his home on the island of Boragora along with his one-eyed dog Jack and his mechanic Corky. Other companions were Bon Chance Louie, the local magistrate and owner of the Monkey Bar hangout, Sarah Stickney White, the bar's singer who was actually an American spy, and Dutch minister Willie Tenboom who was actually a German spy. Here is the one and only season of high adventure on the south seas "TALES OF THE GOLD MONKEY". It aired on ABC TV and was a huge hit show. Why it only lasted one season is a mystery to the industry. Stories were that the other networks were trying to plan counter programming against the show's time slot in anticipation it would last several years. This show was cashing in on the Indiana Jones and Raiders of the Lost Ark fame. It had that same level of humor and adventure, set in the 1930s, pre-World War Two. But alas, it only went one lone season. But what a season. A lost monkey idol, Nazi nukes, Shanghaies, King Solomon's treasure, slave ships, prison island, Japanese knights and an exotic princess, spies, and a one eyed dog named Jack. I love this show. Stephen Collins was pitch perfect as ner-do-well pilot Jake Cutter. Roddy McDowell was the smooth bar owner Last Chance Louie. If you know the show, you know how fun it is. If you don't know it, you're in for a real treat. I have every episode including the pilot movie. Overall quality is about an 8 out of 10. Some episodes are better than others, because some are from studio tapes and not TV broadcast. I even have some bonus stuff on there including a director's cut version of one episode and out takes from another. Plus a home movie inteview with several cast members years later at a convention!

These are from the original ABC broadcasts in 1982 and 83. And many of them are from studio sourced original tapes, not over the air broadcast, making the quality of a lot of my episodes higher. Plus some nice bonus material is included, including a rough cut of one episode with deleted scenes, and rehearsal footage and outtakes from another episode and a 90 minute interview session with the stars of the show.
